What does rug steam cleaning mean?
In the services compared here, “steam cleaning” refers to hot-water extraction. Stanley Steemer describes its in-home option as a convenient refresh with drying in hours, while positioning off-site cleaning as a more extensive treatment. In-home service can fit a short schedule. Ask how the floor beneath the rug is protected, whether the underside is included, and when the rug can be used again. Cleaning the face does not mean no dirt is removed; it means the access and treatment differ from a facility wash.
What changes with whole rug washing?
At a facility, the rug can be handled separately from your floor. Stanley Steemer describes treatment of the face, underside and fringe, with dedicated cleaning and drying equipment. It offers both in-home and off-site options at select locations.
UpFront Home Services distinguishes three off-site options: cleaning both sides, adding shampoo scrubbing, and a separate submersion treatment. It also describes drying racks, air movers and inspection or touch-up work. These are different service levels, so ask what a quote includes rather than assuming “off-site” means immersion. Which service fits your rug?
Give the cleaner your rug’s dimensions, material label, construction if known, existing damage and stain or odor concerns. Ask whether the proposed treatment fits that particular rug. Full immersion is one possible method, not a requirement for every rug.
For a quick in-home appointment, check drying time and access. For a wash away from your home, ask how the rug is inspected, washed, rinsed and dried. A heavily soiled or odor-affected rug deserves a discussion about expected results; UpFront explicitly notes that complete stain or urine removal is not guaranteed.
